DARK MATTER SYMMETRY
PROGROCK & PROGMETAL

Dark Matter Symmetry's style lies somewhere between neo-prog, prog-rock and prog-metal, with borrowings from classical, jazz, fusion and rock. Components of our sound are odd, tricky rhythms, complex harmonies and song structures with melancholic, gloomy passages, but also uplifting moments. We tell fictional stories or work through autobiographical experiences and strongly emphazise meaningful lyrics and epic storylines. Our ambition is to bring our music to life in the best possible way with the skills and resources available to us. Ultimately, we want to fulfil ourselves with DMS, so we have no financial interest, but hope for your appreciation and recognition. We are therefore happy to offer you free downloads of our prog songs for private, non-commercial use and welcome your feedback.

Why Dark Matter Symmetry

We once heard that good old Lemmy Kilmister is supposed to have said that the perfect band name should be as short and concise as possible. Probably that is quite true. However, we believe that progressive music can definitely stand a more complex name. Dark matter exerts a great fascination both from an astronomical and a philosophical point of view. Only about five percent of the universe consists of visible matter, the rest is hidden in the form of unknown and almost non-interacting matter and energy. Leading scientists believe that the universe was symmetrical shortly after the Big Bang and that symmetry breaking occurred as a result of cooling, which created dark matter and also the four basic physical forces. We found this idea very beautiful and coherent as a metaphor for our prog rock/prog metal.
